Water Softeners FAQ
Everything you should know before making the switch to soft water.
White chalky buildup around faucets, soap that won't lather, spots on dishes and glasses, dry skin and hair after showering, and water heaters that fail earlier than expected are all telltale signs. Most of South-Central PA has moderately to very hard water — we'll confirm it during our visit.
Salt-based systems remove hardness minerals through ion exchange — true softening. Salt-free systems condition water so minerals don't stick to surfaces, but don't remove them. Salt-based is more effective for most PA homes with very hard water. We'll walk you through both options honestly and let you decide.
Very little. For a salt-based system you add salt to the brine tank every 6–8 weeks depending on usage. We show you exactly how during the install walk-through. The system regenerates automatically overnight so it never disrupts your day.
Some people notice a slight difference since the mineral content changes. If you prefer unsoftened drinking water, we can leave your kitchen cold tap on a bypass — a common and easy setup we do regularly.
Yes. If your unit isn't regenerating, using too much salt, or not softening effectively, we can diagnose and service it. We'll give you an honest assessment on whether repair or replacement makes more financial sense.
